Why Rootdown.us?

It’s sometimes difficult to communicate the larger picture in an online forum. And as we connect with practitioners and students in the community, it has become clear to us that we need to work on sharing our vision with you.

Soon we’ll have a short video of CEO, Ben Satterfield, sharing how Rootdown.us was born, and what needs he was hoping to meet. In the meantime, I wanted to take a few minutes to blog here as well. I’ve been with this company for just over a year now, and I will admit when I first started working here, I thought that the site was mostly a database of herbs, formulas, and points. My role, when I began, was to implement, enrich, and give structure to the online CEU Platform. Now that role has shifted slightly – I still manage the CEU Platform. M position has now been expanded to include helping to cultivate our community and develop partnerships and a better understanding of what the profession’s needs are.

But before we can cultivate community and understand the profession’s needs, it’s helpful for the community to know who we are. We’re a small group of individuals dedicated to the professional development of the field of Asian Medicine. We recognize the value of preventative healthcare in our society and we’re committed to providing a platform that will help give rise to a more organized, streamlined, and dynamic field. We believe that using today’s technology to support the medicine of the barefoot doctors of the past is an invaluable tool to growing this field and supporting its’ practitioners.

We began this endeavour by creating databases of the basics that can be modified and edited according to your experiences instantly. We then included forums and a community messaging system so that peers could communicate seamlessly. And we then moved forward to build the CEU Platform, which allows you to access CAB/NCCAOM Board Approved Courses for 60 days. Some learning does need to take place face to face. And some learning can be presented in an online format. The strength of our system is that you can connect with instructors via the Community Section to ask questions, and you can provide feedback on the courses for other members. And the pace of those courses fits in your schedule.

We’ve now also introduced a free weekly Podcast series so that you can take the medicine with you on the road, in the car, and at the gym. And we’re also venturing into creating community events such as a monthly Community Fire here in Los Angeles to help foster a greater sense of connectedness. After all, building and maintaining your own practice can be a daunting experience. We’ve also just established a partnership with a business consulting firm to be able to offer courses and coaching to those just starting or those who are struggling. Likewise we hope to develop more materials to support students in the near future. You shared these needs with us, and we’re doing our best to respond to what you've shared.

So if you’re invested in the future of Asian Medicine, and in your future, we would like to invite you to invest in us as well. We’re committed to supporting you each step of the way. We see Rootdown.us as your platform, so share and support us in growing it for you. Become a fan of ours on Facebook and MySpace, follow us on Twitter, read our blog each week, and purchase our online CEUs. All of this support goes to help grow Rootdown.us according to your needs.

Our futures are intertwined. So let's work together to make that future bright.

Contribute. Learn. Connect. And Grow Together.
