Sherwin Nuland Videocast Lecture: Presented by NCCAM

On Tuesday, March 10th at 2:30 PM EST, NCCAM will present Sherwin Nuland as he speaks about Chinese Medicine, Western Science, and Acupuncture. To view the videocast when it is LIVE, visit here.

Sherwin Nuland is a renowned surgeon, having been in practice for over three decades and performed over 10,000 operations. What makes him unique is his second career as a writer, where he explores life and death, morality, and aging while trying to uncover what more there is to the human body than just anatomy.

During visits to China he observed major surgery being performed without anesthesia, utilizing only acupuncture. And in this lecture he will be sharing these experiences, as he shares how he believes in this complementary medicine even though he has found no evidence of its' effectiveness from a Biomedical standpoint.

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health presents this inaugural lecture in the Stephen E. Straus Distinguished Lecture series. Dr. Straus was the founding director of NCCAM (1999-2006) and an internationally recognized clinician-scientist at the NIH. Under his leadership, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) evolved as a research area. NCCAM invites leading figures in science and medicine to speak about their unique perspectives on the field of CAM. The lectures shed light on the evolution of CAM practice and research, and the current use of CAM by the public.
